This is a custom 2024 model and includes some unique specs. No Mahogany on this guitar! Instead the maple 10-top is paired with an ash body giving this a big, resonant sound. The neck has also been change to torrified flame maple that is finished in satin and feels incredible. Another unique feature is the use of a McCarty III pickup instead of the traditional 58/15 LT.
McCarty pickups were first introduced in the 1990’s, and while there were never pickups named McCarty II, PRS considers these the third iteration of one of the most popular pickup models of the past.
McCarty III pickups were spec’d by Paul Reed Smith and the PRS New Products Engineering team. From our own hands-on research into coveted vintage pickup models to advancements in signal analyzation and “tuning” technology, these pickups incorporate every detail of pickup knowledge PRS has gained in recent years of R&D. PRS McCarty III pickups are vintage-inspired humbuckers that bring a vocal clarity to their full, warm tone.
This whole new scope of sounds (that are only possible with a three-pickup guitar) are easily accessible in the Studio model thanks to the push/pull tone control and 5-way blade switch. With seven combinations in all, the PRS Studio covers classic tones but maintains a unique voice making it a perfect “desert island” guitar.
