Very Good Condition: This guitar is in very good condition overall and shows wear appropriate for a guitar that was loved by one previous owner over 62 years. The finish has aged beautifully and is mostly in-tact with nice checking. A mark is visible on the back left by the guitar strap is was laying on top of when we opened the case. The transparency of the original blond finish shows a gorgeous ash body underneath.
The maple neck has a birdseye pattern that is visible all the way through the headstock. The rosewood is dark, healthy and free of any major wear. The neck has a very narrow nut width at 39.11mm and “narrow” is written in pencil on the neck heel. Depth at the 1st fret is 20.25mm and depth at the 12th fret is 25.01mm. The fretwire measures 2.13mm wide and .987mm high and there is no visible evidence of a re-fret ever being done. When we purchased this guitar we learned it had not been played in 15+ years and there was corrosion on the frets. Luckily, there was minimal wear on the frets so after a level, crown and polish there was still a lot of height left.
The electronics are 100% functional and sound clean. The CTS pots are original and the visible code dates to the 52nd week of '59. Both pickups have clean black bobbins, original windings, and pickup covers that show only minor wear. The knobs are original and the tortiouse pickguard sits flat and has only minor shrinkage. This guitar ships with the original hard shell case and some fun extras from the previous owner.
